NFIRS Account Reset
NFIRS accounts go inactive every 45 days and users can get locked out if they mistype or forget their password. If you need your account reset, please either email us at vfirsreports[located_at]vdfp[period]virginia[period]gov, or contact us by phone; Renee Tabb (804-249-1987) or Dwight Crews (804-249-1989).
NFIRS Software Download Instructions
- To download the software, go to www.nfirs.fema.gov.
- In the green bar at the top of the page, click on 'User Section'.
- Then, on the left, click on 'User Login'. If you get a Security Alert window, click ‘OK”.
- You should then see a logon screen. Login using your NFIRS account information. When prompted that you are about to access a U.S. Government information system, click ‘OK’.
- Once you have logged in, on the left, click on 'Download Software'.
- Then, to download the software, click on 'NFIRS 5.0 Client Version 5.7.0'.
- A new window should open with the title ‘File Download Notice: Application Executable File’. Click on ‘Download Now’.
- When asked if you want to run or save the file, select ‘Save’ and change the ‘Save In’ location to your Desktop. Click ‘Save’.
- The program file is named ‘NFIRSv570.exe’ and is 13 MB in size. When the download is complete, click ‘Close’.
- Locate the ‘NFIRSv570.exe’ file on your Desktop and double-click on the file to start the installation of the program. When prompted, accept all the defaults and keep clicking 'Next' until the program finishes.
NFIRS Program Windows 7 Fix
Disable Aero for Windows 7 and use Windows Classic instead
- Right-click on the desktop and choose Personalize from the menu.
- Scroll the themes down until the Basic and High Contrast themes are seen.
- Click Windows Classic, and OK. The desktop should change to Windows Classic that will apparently allow the Client Tool to run.
- When the session is over, change back to the default.
NFIRS Web-Based Reports
- To access the website, go to www.nfirs.fema.gov.
- In the green bar at the top of the page, click on ‘Web-based Tools’.
- Then, on the left, click on ‘Summary Output Reports Tool’.
- Click on ‘Summary Output Reports Tool Login’. If you get a Security Alert window, click ‘OK’.
- On the left of the page, click on ‘Web-Based Reports Login’. When prompted that you are about to access a U.S. Government information system, click ‘OK’.
- You should see four tabs on the page. The first tab, ‘Documents’ contains the reports that you can run under your account. Click on a report to run. Enter a date range and for the dropdown boxes, select ‘All’ for Status, ‘Both’ for Version, and ‘All’ for Released. This ensures that you are getting all of your incidents in the report.
- In the ‘NFIRS Group Selection’ window, click the dot next to Virginia to expand out to your division, locality, and then fire department. Click the box next to your fire department to select. You should see a check in the box.
- Click ‘Submit Request’ to submit the report to run on the server.
- Click on the ‘Requests’ tab. This tab shows reports that are currently running, but have not finished. The ‘My Recent Reports’ tab shows reports that are finished and ‘Completed Reports’ shows all reports that were run in the last 30 days.
- When your report shows up under ‘My Recent Reports’, click on the report to open.
- Click ‘PDF/Printing’ to save the report to your computer. Select ‘All’ for the page range and click on ‘Save PDF’.
- When prompted if you want to open or save the file, select ‘Save’, change the ‘Save In’ location to your Desktop and enter a new filename for the report. Click ‘Save’. When the download is complete, click ‘Close’.
- Locate the file on your Desktop to open. You now have a PDF of the report that you can save for future use and you can print the report from the PDF.
- Click ‘Back’ on your web browser and click on the ‘Documents’ tab if you want to run another report.
Incident Data Submissions Using Vendor Software
If your fire department is using vendor software such as Firehouse to enter your incidents, you need to send us a data file to import your incidents into the NFIRS database. Email data files to us at the following email address. After your file has been imported, you will receive a validation summary report back by email. Please see the ‘VFIRS Information’ webpage for a schedule of when incidents should be submitted.
