Virginia Fire Incident Reporting System (VFIRS) Training

VFIRS Instructor Training

Training classes with an instructor can be requested for your fire department. The training will cover the rules and requirements with incident reporting. Please complete and return the course request form to initiate a VFIRS incident reporting class for your department. Once we receive the completed form, then a training session will be setup with your department.

VFIRS Web Conference Training

VFIRS Overview web-conference training is also available to fire departments. Please see the monthly training schedule for 2011 shown below. The training (2 hr.) will cover the rules and requirements with incident reporting and will also demonstrate how to enter incidents using the USFA Data Entry Tool/Data Entry Browser Interface (DEBI) systems. Attendees will be sent a link to join the training with their computer and will also be given a conference phone number to dial-in to the class.

Here are the PC system requirements for attending the training. High-speed internet connection is required.

  • Internet Explorer® 7.0 or newer, Mozilla® Firefox® 3.0 or newer or Google™ Chrome™ 5.0 or newer (JavaScript™ and Java™ enabled)
  • Windows® 7, Vista, XP or 2003 Server
  • Cable modem, DSL or better Internet connection
  • Minimum of Pentium® class 1GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM
  • Telephone with speakerphone feature

The training will be limited to 15 attendees. There are monthly training classes scheduled, so if a specific class if full and you are not able to sign-up, there will be other training sessions available in the future. If you are interested in attending a VFIRS web-conference training class, please complete the web conference signup form and return by email to Renee Tabb. If multiple individuals from a fire department want to attend, then each person should register separately. We require that you provide an email address in order to sign-up for the training.

VFIRS Knowledge Center Training

Virginia Fire Incident Reporting System (VFIRS) online training is also available to fire departments through the VDFP Knowledge Center virtual classroom. The training gives fire service the ability to take a course online using their computer at home or at the station. The VFIRS online training course takes approximately 30 min. to complete and includes a knowledge check to test your knowledge of the information.

VDFP Virtual Classroom

The webpage contains information on how to register and setup an account and also includes instructions on taking a class for the first time.

To Take the Course

When you logon to the VDFP Knowledge Center, click on ‘Learning Center’ and then, ‘Course Information & Enrollment’. Enter ‘VDFP’ under keywords and click ‘Search’. From the list of courses found, you should see ‘VDFP-FST VFIRS’. Click on the course to take the VFIRS training.

After you view the presentation, there is a knowledge check quiz at the end in which you have to score at least 80% (8 out of 10 questions correct) to successfully pass the course.

To Print your Certificate

After you have completed the training, go to ‘Administration’ and then, ‘Student Records’. Click on ‘Student Transcript’ and then, click the certificate link next to the training course to open and print your certificate.
