At VCCS Colleges

Representatives from Virginia’s community colleges have recently completed an initiative to develop a common curriculum for Associate of Applied Science degrees in Fire Science Technology at Virginia’s community colleges.  Community colleges with related Associate of Science degrees and certificate programs will also align their programs with the common curriculum.

1 For students who plan to transfer, ENG 112 is recommended.
2 Two credits of health (HLT) or physical education (PED) are required for all students. Veterans will be awarded HLT/PED credit based on military service. EMT certification will substitute for this requirement.
3 Any 100 level math course will fulfill this requirement. However, MTH 120 is not a transferable math.  For students who plan to transfer, MTH 151 or another transferable math is recommended. 
4  This course, which must include a laboratory, may be selected from biology, chemistry, or physics.
5 Psychology and Sociology are recommended. For students who plan to transfer, the student should select social science courses that will satisfy the requirements of the four-year institution that they plan to attend.
6  If ENG 131 was taken to satisfy the ENG 112 requirement, an FST elective may be substituted.
