Jimmy Poindexter is currently the Battalion Chief on A shift for the Salem Fire and EMS Department. He has served in the fire and EMS services for over 30 years, beginning as a volunteer with the Mt. Pleasant First Aid Crew in Roanoke County. In 1995, Salem Fire Department hired him as a Firefighter/EMT, and followed to successfully become Senior Firefighter/Medic, Lt. – EMS Supervisor, Captain, and Battalion Chief. During his career, Mr. Poindexter became President of Local 3478 alongside Virginia Professional Firefighters Association. Mr. Poindexter presently represents the Virginia Professional Firefighters Association on the Fire Services Board.

Mr. Poindexter has been married to his wife Cindy for 25 years. They have four children, two girls and two boys. As a third generation firefighter, Mr. Poindexter is following his grandfather, father, and uncle’s path in Virginia’s fire services. Mr. Poindexter has an Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Health Science – Paramedic, Associate of Science Degree in Fire Science, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Administration.
