Community Risk Reduction

The mission of VDFP's Community Risk Reduction branch is to provide a systematic and proactive means to manage risks within a community and the Commonwealth.

Community Risk Reduction Initiatives

Advocacy

CRR is dedicated to the safety of Virginia citizens, as well as that of fire and emergency service providers. CRR gathers data and disseminates information for the identification and promotion of best practices.

Technical Assistance

CRR provides data and consultation to fire and emergency service providers and their communities to help identify and prioritize local risks, develop and execute action plans and evaluate process outcomes.

Research

CRR collects and utilizes data from the Virginia Fire Incident Reporting System (VFIRS), subject matter resources and experts to provide information while conducting a community risk assessment. CRR can
assist in the creation of the reports and studies used in development of community risk reduction programs.

CRR Smoke Alarm Distribution Program

The VDFP Community Risk Reduction section is offering the opportunity for fire departments to apply to receive up to 30 smoke alarms. The alarms will be distributed to at least four departments in each VDFP division.

Applications must be submitted by April 17 and awards will be announced on May 1.

The smoke alarms will be distributed in May and must be installed by June 30, 2025. Departments will use the QR code affixed to the outside of the smoke alarm box to complete a short form to confirm where each alarm was installed. Please pay close attention to the information listed in the agreement portion of the application.

CRR Form

VDFP has created a CRR forum responsible for providing a data driven Community Risk Reduction (CRR) statewide outreach to identify, prioritize, and address all hazard risks. This group is meant to inspire and stimulate conversation between a diverse coalition of state partners and organizations. Use the button on the right to join us today!
