Ernie Little retired from the Prince William County Dept of Fire and Rescue for in January, 2013, after 38 years. During his fire service career, he served in several capacities in the Operations and Technical Services Divisions, which included time as a firefighter/EMT, Lieutenant, Captain, Operations Battalion Chief, and the Planning and Information Technology Battalion Chief, and Fire Marshal’s Office. In his sixteen years in the Fire Marshal’s Office he served as a Fire Inspector/Plans Reviewer, Inspections Captain, Investigations Captain, and the Code Compliance Captain having responsibility for supervision of the fire prevention code enforcement and fire protection systems inspections program.  In January, 2018 Mr. Little was appointed to the Virginia Fire Services Board as the representative for the Virginia Fire Prevention Association.

Mr. Little earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Construction from Virginia Tech, graduating in 1974, and earned an associate’s degree in Fire Administration from the Northern Virginia Community College in 1980.

He possesses several certifications which include  The Commission on Professional Credentialing “Chief Fire Officer”, The Institution of Fire Engineers “Member”, National Fire Academy “Executive Fire Officer”, National Association of Fire Investigators Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, International Code Council Fire Inspector I, Fire Inspector II, and Fire Plans Examiner, Virginia Department of Community Housing, Fire Inspector, Fire Protection Inspector, Fire Plans Examiner, and Advanced Code Official, Virginia Department of Fire Programs Fire Inspector 1031, Fire Investigator 1033, Fire Officer IV, Instructor IV, and Adjunct Instructor. He has also held certification as a certified motor carrier inspector for hazardous materials and cargo tank/bulk packaging and served as Chairman and Training Chair of the Northern Virginia Joint Committee on Fire and Arson Investigation

Currently he works part-time for the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office as a Fire Plans Reviewer reviewing Zoning, Special Use Permits, Site Plans, and Fire Protection Plans. He has also been a member of the Virginia Fire Marshal Academy 1031 Instructor Cadre since 1998.
