2026 Funding Priorities: 1st Sets of PPE
The Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment Grant Application period opens on July 1st and closes on August 31st.
Individual Fire Departments and Fire Companies can submit their applications directly to the agency grants unit.
The purpose of this grant program is to enhance fire department’s capabilities by lessening their economic burden. The grant allocation will prioritize localities (Cities and Counties) that score above average or high on the Virginia Department of Housing and Community development (DHCD) fiscal stress index and are classified as double-distressed according to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s (VEDP). Fire Departments and Fire Companies within the fiscally distressed localities will receive priority scoring during the vetting process, however all departments that meet the funding priorities outline below are encouraged to apply.
The funding priorities for the FY2026 grant cycle is first time Personal Protective Equipment: turnout gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Individual PPE-Grant award amounts shall be decided by the Virginia Fire Services Board based upon need. The maximum allowable amount of any PPE-Grant shall be $100,000 per applicant.
